Hello Good People,
February striked like a thunder around here, I went ‘down the pipe’ but I’m back to the game! I have always been a positive person, but lately is more difficult to keep that mindset, maybe I’m getting (too) old 😅 anyways I put myself together again, drawing and all kind of activities are keeping my spirit and mind happy, hoping that helps my body too.
As I wrote on my last letter, I focused on coloured pencils drawings in January. It was a good choice for the beginning of the year as I was already used to the medium, and I may say that my relation with colour pencils only got bigger!
Imagining this scenario “the world is going mad* and ‘they’ can only produce one material, choose the ONE you want to have!” 🙀 You already know what my answer would be, curious to know what yours would be?
If I knew that having swatch sheets of my colour pencils would be helpful as it has been, would have done it a long time ago! Of course I swacthed before my pencils in sketchbooks (multiple times inclusive) but doing it in loose sheets was a game changer for me! And hopefully it will prevent me to buy repeated pencils in the future.🤭
Let me show you some of my latest favourite drawings:

Things that I’m noticing in my daily practice:
love drawing just with line, like that one of the rooftops, but also throwing all the colours in other drawings, and this confuses me sometimes! I assume can like and do both ways.
discovered that I like to combine graphite with colour pencils, and also adding lettering.
I’m heavy handed and most of my drawings are slightly tilted to the left (this is very funny to notice!).
It’s pretty obvious that food related drawings make a stand in my art.
Appreciation corner:
Sabine Fasching (
, same handle on Instagram) - the looseness and her magnificent use of negative space always amaze me. Also love the limited colour palette choices in Sabine’s drawings.Katya Tikhova (@katya_tikhova on Instagram) - expressive and bold colour pencil drawings that make me stop and stare more. Love the different textures that she can get with colour pencils and specially the exaggerated forms used on the people drawings.
Linda van den Berg (@housecatillustration on Instagram) - once more the odd shapes hold my attention, the artist knows how to combine extremely well the exaggeration and cuteness in her illustrations.
Zoe Barker (@zoebarkerdraws on Instagram) - love her layering skills and neat drawings. If you like to use colour pencils in a more “traditional” way, not too loose and scribbly, you may like her artworks.
If you know other artists who use colour pencils in a way you love leave a comment so I can check them too 😊
Three little BIG things:
I want to get a new look to the ‘oficina’ wall, I already bought some frames, let’s see how many months I will took to actually do it :D in the meantime lately I’m taking more pictures of my happy place and not only from my sketchbooks/art!
I’m not doing the #100dayproject but, coincidently or not, I started my gouache ritual on Monday 19th too!!! Gouache ritual is a very simple act to begin the day without stress, like doing yoga for your body, in this case doing art for my mind. I am mixing gouache colours, one each day. I don’t actually know how many days it will take me. For now I am swatching the colours from the tubes and mixing each colour with white.
I’m currently reading “The Art of Creativity” by Susie Pearl. Easy to read and leads me to a lot of brainstorming. What are you reading?
And that’s all I got to share this month with you, hopefully I will send you another letter in Spring! Thank you for subscribing Blogletter 💛
Till the next time,
Teresa
*this part, unfortunately, is not very far from the reality.
Beautiful swatches and art! Thank you for sharing.
